On June 3rd, more than 175 female high school students gathered at Conestoga College, Cambridge Campus for the 2nd annual Jill Of All Trades event. Girls from several regions across Ontario were greeted with Jill Of All Trades shirts, bags, and swag to get the day started.

Keynote speaker Danielle Bryk, known for her HGTV shows Bryk House and Flip Addict, started the day with an upbeat and motivational presentation about women in skilled trades. While she may be petite, Danielle had a big message. She reminded the students that it’s important to do what you love, regardless of what other people think. She shared her story of watching her mother renovate her childhood home, and how financial strain taught her to think economically and learn how to do the construction work on her own. Danielle’s presentation was the perfect way to kick-start the day.

The girls were then grouped into small teams and given a mentor for the day. Each group travelled to three different hands-on workshops, featuring a different skilled trade. Workshops such as Heavy Equipment Operator allowed the girls to test drive a bobcat, while the Plumbing workshop provided the skills and materials to make and test their own copper shower head!

Cotton candy and fresh popcorn kept everyone full of energy for the very busy day! A big thank you to Conestoga College for hosting such a wonderful event!
