Description

  • Plan, prepare and organize metal fabrication by reading and interpreting drawings; perform metal fabrication calculations; lay out pattern and transfer features of drawings to work piece; writing, editing and verifying layout patterns
  • Develop patterns for sheet metal using Computer Assisted Design and Drafting (CAD) software packages
  • Operate conventional, Numerical Control (NC) and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) metal removal equipment with minimum waste and within engineering specifications
  • Perform punching operations by selecting punching machine; operate and maintain hand and bench tools; operate conventional, NC and CNC punching equipment; write, edit and verify CNC programs
  • Perform forming operations by selecting forming machines and die; operate and maintain hand and bench tools; sequence bending operations; operate conventional, NC and CNC brakes; operate manual and power forming roll and tube bending machines
  • Verify quality of part or product, checking and recording dimensions, test welds, finish edges and surfaces, protect workplace material and record quality assurance data
  • Join work piece metal by selecting type of weld; operate spot, metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG), and arc welding equipment; operate oxy-acetylene brazing and soldering equipment
  • Install hardware and assemble components

Educational/Training Requirements

  • The minimum entry for apprenticeship is Grade 12
  • Completion of an 8,000 hour apprenticeship program is required
