Description

  • Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, pattern drawings, and work process documentation
  • Design, make, and repair moulds and models used to mass produce plastic or metal components or products
  • Build precision mould components using metal-cutting machines and equipment including saws, drills, grinders, lathes, mills, and electrical discharge machines (EDMs)
  • Perform work in-process measuring and checking using specialized and precision tools and equipment

Career Opportunities

  • Mould makers are employed primarily in large and small manufacturing industries such as automobile, aircraft, metal fabrication, electrical machinery and plastics, and in tool and die, mould making and machine shops

Educational/Training Requirements

  • The minimum entry for apprenticeship is Grade 12
  • Completion of a 7,280 hour apprenticeship program is required
  • If you have completed 8,000 hours of on the job experience/training but have not completed the Apprenticeship Program you may be eligible to challenge the Certificate of Qualification.
